Masterpiece Classic is currently running Jane Austen's Emma and will follow it up with 2 other Austen tales - Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. I am hopeful every season that they will run Pride and Predjudice, particularly the 1995 BBC version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Looks like I'm out of luck this season though so I have to resort to other measures.
Thank goodness for YouTube! I found the entire series online and divided into very watchable 8-10 minute segments. There are 6 'episodes', all of which have 6 parts to them. Because I love it so very much I'm embedding episode 1 (all 6 parts) here and intend to follow up with another episode each week. Watch a little at a time if you can - I'd love to hear your reaction to it. Have you seen other versions? If so, how does this compare?
Firth's portrayal of Mr. Darcy was the first I ever saw of this story and remains my favorite of all. He captures Darcy's brooding, haughty manner so well and is so very sexy while he does it. And I think Jennifer Ehle is just beautiful as Lizzy - the very meaning of 'fine eyes'.
No more chatter from me - watch and enjoy!
